With the end of the federal emergency declaration for COVID-19, the Public Health vaccination site at the Auburn Outlet Mall is also winding down. Free COVID-19 vaccinations for all ages will be available Friday, June 9 through Monday, June 12 at this site, no appointment needed. This is a great opportunity to get caught up with the bivalent booster, especially for people ages 50 years and older and people who are immunocompromised who are at higher risk for severe COVID-19. The site will close after Monday.
Where to get vaccinated after June 12
Public Health – Seattle & King County will continue to offer COVID vaccinations at vaccination events and through in-home vaccination for people who have conditions that make it difficult to leave home. COVID-19 vaccination is still available from healthcare providers, pharmacies and clinics throughout King County. For locations and more information, visit kingcounty.gov/vaccine.
Cost of COVID-19 vaccine with the end of the emergency declaration
The federal government purchased a large supply of COVID-19 vaccines that is predicted to last through the summer of 2023. COVID-19 vaccines will remain free to all people, even if they don’t have insurance, while the national vaccine supply lasts.
After the federal vaccine supply runs out:
- COVID-19 vaccinations will continue to be free for children in Washington
- COVID-19 vaccinations for adults will be covered by most private insurance, Medicare (“Apple Health”), and Medicaid/CHIP
- People who are uninsured will be able to get free COVID-19 vaccinations at certain local pharmacies and community health centers
Most forms of private health insurance must continue to pay for COVID-19 vaccines given by a health care provider in their network, without charging the patient. People with private health insurance may need to pay part of the cost if an out-of-network provider vaccinates them.
Community Health Centers and Public Health Centers have vaccinations for uninsured and underinsured people, if they enroll as patients.
Gratitude to our vaccination staff
We are incredibly proud of all the staff at many locations that have provided free COVID-19 vaccinations since December of 2020, working tirelessly to provide this service to people in King County. The Auburn Outlet Mall site and the Auburn Mobile Vaccination Team have given 108,200 vaccinations, including vaccinations to over 11,000 children. Thank you for these many months of dedication!
