Think everyone else is doing it? Wrong. Swim instructor giving you the greenlight? Not cool. Besides being gross, urine forms a toxic chemical when combined with chlorine. In fact, the pee/chlorine combo is what makes your eyes burn after a day at the pool.
We asked you not to pee in the pool, but lots of people won’t heed our advice. Pools may seem clean, but chlorine only goes so far. Every pool contains hair, sunscreen, pee, poop (yep!), skin and sweat. Keep your mouth shut!
It’s just a good idea. Everyone can go to the bathroom, get their diapers changed, reapply sunscreen, and take a break. This keeps the pool cleaner and everyone safer.
Set alarms on your phone to remind you to reapply sunscreen. Once isn’t enough!
The Centers for Disease Control say the following about chlorination: Proper free chlorine level (1–3 mg/L or parts per million [ppm]) and pH (7.2–7.8) maximize germ-killing power. Don’t know the levels at your public pool? Just ask!
