Food banks in South King County serve 30,000 families a month, but fresh produce can be hard to come by. Our partner Elk Run Farm is changing that, and growing community in Maple Valley in the process.
UPDATE: “From an initial donation of 6 pounds of basil and hot peppers in August, to a donation of over 80 pounds of tomatillos and other produce in October, the farm has been steadily increasing the supply of fresh, local produce available to South King County families in need. In November, volunteers replanted garlic and other winter cover crops to enrich the soil for next summer. Volunteers can come out to the farm in January for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on January 16: https://volunteer.uwkc.org/aem/general/need/?doc_id=3432&need_id=224218”
