Washington State Tobacco Quitline Celebrates 20 Years

For 20 years, the Washington State Quitline has helped people quit tobacco products by providing free and confidential counseling to callers. Tobacco remains a leading preventable cause of disease and death in Washington and the United States. With personal call and text support, the Quitline uses tested techniques to help people live tobacco-free.

The Quitline is proven to help people quit: in 2018-19, about 35% of Quitline participants successfully quit tobacco after seven months. This year, Washington State’s quit rate ranked second in the nation by the North American Quitline Consortium.

Washington residents can call 1-800-QUIT-NOW or text READY to 200-400 to register for free phone-based counseling and text- and web-based cessation support. Health care providers can refer patients online at quitline.com.

The Quitline’s 20th Anniversary coincides with this year’s Great American Smokeout, the American Cancer Society event thar promotes tobacco cessation.
